This year’s World Shea Expo 2025 has been scheduled for Tamale in the Northern region on the 2nd-4th September 2025.
Speaking at a media launch of the 2025 World Shea Expo in Accra on Wednesday, the Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency, Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor stressed that the Expo marks a renewed commitment by government to transform the shear industry into a powerful vehicle for economic growth.

“The Expo is a single most impactful platform that brings together about one million women and youth who are involved in processing of the shea”, Mr. Otokunor emphasized
He added that the Expo is designed to unlock new opportunities in the value chain maintaining that significant progress has been made in the area of product packaging among others.

The Director of Presidential Initiatives in Agriculture and Agribusiness at the Presidency later revealed that government is reviving the Buipe shea factory established by Mahama and left to rot under the NPP regime.

He said the rehabilitation efforts of the factory are underway adding that when done , it can process about 60,000 tonnes of shear annually.
“We are moving from exporting raw shear to value addition by 2026”, Dr. Otokunor assured.

He later called on the media, all and sundry to rally support for the Expo to boost Ghana’s shear industry.
The Project Director for the 2025 World Shea Expo, Mr Eric Banye emphasized that the Expo which is being spearheaded by the Savannah Golden Tree Limited seeks to empower rural women and building the value chain of shea.
He said Ghana’s shea business deserves a platform of global scale hence the Expo.

“Today’s event marks a new chapter of opportunity to spotlight the northern Ghana”, Mr. Banye said.
The Project Co-ordinator revealed that the objective of the Expo is to expand international market and investment for shea, showcase Ghana’s shea quality and capacity to global markets.
He added that it is also to recognize and celebrate the contributions of women in the sector hence the theme of the Expo “Empowering women and Youth-led SMEs: the Role of Government and Financial Institutions.

Mr. Banye later appealed to the media to make this years global shea Expo a priority by sustaining the narratives on shea and the Expo by extension.
On his part, the CEO of Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), Lawyer Francis Kwadwo Kwarteng Arthur said the 2nd edition of the Expo marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s effort to further enhance shea and the value chain for an increased employment.
He said a lot more can be done to make shea a solid catalyst for economic development in Ghana.

He emphasized the need to increase the non traditional export and improve upon our global competitiveness using shea.
The media launch brought together stakeholders and Partners in the industry including the Northern regional Minister Ali Adolph John, Deputy CEO, of Ghana Free Zone Authority Mr. Musah Sibiri Hamidu among others, all of whom expressed their commitment to support the Expo.
