In an address, President Mahama described the ceremony as a big step towards resetting Ghana’s economy.

He said the appointment of the Governor and his Deputy is crucial in ensuring currency regulation and stability.

He further stressed that the financial crisis Ghana is currently faced with, required persons with strong leadership, demonstrable and proven track record like Dr. Johnson Asiamah and Dr. Zacharia Mumuni “to put the economy back on the path of growth”.

President Mahama who assured them that he would not ask them to print more money however advised them to go beyond technical considerations and make the monetary policies be the true reflection of the economic situation.

He later took a swipe at the erstwhile Akufo Addo government over the banking sector clean up saying it was done with a narrowed focus ignoring the human consequences.

He therefore charged them to deliver their mandate with excellence and eschew unregulated printing of money as it drives inflation and threatens long term stability.

“The lessons of the past reminds us of fiscal recklessness”, the President pointed out.

In his acceptance speech, Governor of Bank of Ghana Dr. Johnson Asiamah assured the President of their unwavering commitment to reset Ghana’s economy and put it on a sound footing.

“Your excellency the reset path we’ve embarked on is more than mere sloganeering”, he said.

He said Ghana’s economic condition calls for a recalibration of the monetary policy strategy and adopt a proactive and precise approach in managing the inflation.

“The days of exchange rate volatility and speculation must be a thing of the past”, Dr. Asiamah assured.
